Human Interface Design

Yeah…. so anyone else get tired of the same old same old style of interfaces in our software. Photoshop, Illustrator Flash and Dreamweaver are my fab 4 and I think they all need a face lift. Someone did it.

I want this for real. Then at the end of the day I will feel like I truly did something real. Kind of like I feel after I’ve spent time in my art studio. Dirty, gritty and accomplished.

FITC – This Weekend!!!!

I can’t wait! I’m already stuck trying to sort out the schedule.  Should I go see “Developing Touch Based Flash Apps for Nokia Devices” or maybe the talk on Adobe “Catalyst”? But definitely “Developing iPhone Applications”. And anything AS3 related.

It’s going to be a total nerd fest for sure!

FitC!!!

The schedule is up and it’s going to be 3 great days of nerdy fun, fun, fun! I can’t wait to check out the talk on developing apps for the iPhone, talks on AS3 and of course watching what happens when a bunch of geeks go to a club. Hint… they stand around and talk shop. I only wish Flash in the Can was held twice a year. A must see event for every interactive designer and developer!!!

FITC Speaker

I’m really thrilled to be moderating a discussion panel at this years FITC ( a design and technology festival) in Toronto!

If you’re a freelancer or even thinking about freelancing you don’t want to miss our panel discussion at FITC Toronto “Reality Cheque: Running a Freelance Business”

This session will dive into helpful and practical subject matter that they didn’t teach you in school. We’ll provide you with tips and techniques to help you run a successful freelance business. Topics will include how to set your rates, factoring in taxes, making sure a contract is in your best interest and how to market yourself. So bring along your questions as well.

Panelists include Dana DiTomaso LakeStreet Communications , Kendra Gadzala www.gadzala.com, Nadine Lessio nadinelessio.com, and Stacey Mulcahy bitchwhocodes.com. And I’ll be moderating (Ann-Marie Cheung FlashGoddess.com).

FITC is even offering a special discount for freelancers and those who are out of work or have been recently been laid off, pretty cool!

I’ve been coming to this event for the past 7 years and it has always been great! I can’t wait!

Meat Pod

You know, there are times when I think to myself, I have seen everything. Maybe that’s a little jaded, but I swear the same stuff keeps re-appearing every few years. But then, I saw a car on the 401 in Toronto covered (COVERED) with toy dolls. I knew, when I saw it, that clearly I hadn’t seen everything yet.

I was just starting to feel that jaded way again, when I was perusing the Canadian Beef web site. Yes, it’s 4pm, I’m bored and hungry but it’s too early to stop working for teh day and too early for dinner.  Probably not a good idea to be at this site right now… but here’s what I found:

Yes… it’s an iPod cover made to look like beef. Forget shiny, trendy and cool covers, let’s go for something different. This and other fine products come from this site:

Just a quick note to find out who’s going to fitc this year. I’ll probably be there the whole time. Wanna hook up? Let me know. It’ll be a complete Nerd-A-Palooza!

And ladies, don’t forget there are still free tickets being given away if you ask nicely :-) I’ve sent my Flash piece in, how about you? My swf is here:
